 Thought for the week

“Gratitude is not about stuff. Gratitude is the emotional response to the surprise of our very existence,
to sensing that inner light and realizing the astonishing sacred, social, and scientific events
that brought each one of us into being. We cry out like the psalmist,
“I am fearfully and wonderfully made!” (Ps. 139:14).”

- Diana Butler Bass, Grateful: The Transformative Power of Giving Thanks

Over the past few months, the parish has said goodbye to two long-time members and faithful friends: Elsie Dandy and Kay Miller. On Thursday, October 24th, our church family is invited to gather and celebrate the lives of both of these wonderful women with a parish eucharist and memorial service. This Service of Remembrance will be held at 10:30 am. As you know, Elsie’s family has already hosted a public Celebration of Life and Kay’s family will do the same in the next few weeks (which I hope you will all be a part of, as well). Notification for that date will come at a later time.

The Feast of All Saints (November 3rd) is a time when we remember loved ones who have died. If you wish to include your loved ones names on this memorial list, please sign the sheet at the back of the church. We will also be receiving donations for flowers. Please submit your dedications to the office.

Coffee Shop Bible Study: We meet at 11 am at The Vault Coffee and Espresso Bar (101 St Andrew St W, Fergus) for an hour of snacks and study focused on the upcoming week's lectionary readings. Everyone is welcome!

Wednesday Morning Prayer at 10 am. Everyone is welcome.

Women's Community Lunch: Every Wednesday at 12 noon in our Butterfly Hall. Free and Fun! Kids welcome! Our building is fully accessible.

Lunch and Learn: On Sunday, October 20th following the 10:30 am service. We will be viewing the 3rd and final episode, season 1, of the excellent TVO series, "First Contact" which takes a group of six non-Indigenous Canadians with strong opinions on Indigenous people and immerses then into Aboriginal Canada for the first time. The six participants are tested in extraordinary situations, their beliefs are confronted, their emotions pushed to the limit. In this episode, the group travel to Calgary to experience life on the streets and then travel to an Edmonton prison to learn about life on the inside. Please note: everyone is welcome even if you have not viewed previous episodes. Please sign the sheet at the back of the church (numbers for lunch) if interested.

Attention Readers and Prayer Leaders (and those who wish to join this ministry!): Please mark your calendars for a brief training session following the 10:30 service on Sunday, October 27th in the church.

The Book Club: Our selection for November is, "Washington Black" by Esi Edugyan, the winner of the Scotiabank Giller prize this year. This novel is ,"an inspiring story of freedom and self-discovery" - Time.  This is our last gathering until the New Year and we will be choosing our reading list for 2020. Everyone is welcome to come and join our discussion. We will meet on Wednesday, November 20th, 1:30 pm at the home of Anne Warner.

There will be 1 service at 10:30 am on Sunday, November 3rd – All Saints Day. Jay Lefebvre will be celebrant and preacher.

The Annual Pasta Lunch will be held on Sunday, November 3rd immediately after the 10:30 am service. A free-will offering is appreciated in support of the Adopt-a-Family at Christmas programme. A sign-up sheet is available at the back of the Church for donations of salads and pasta dishes. Don’t miss this enjoyable event of fellowship, fun and support of a wonderful cause.

Bishop's Company Fall Reception: You are cordially invited by Bishop Susan Bell to attend a special wine and cheese reception for members and friends of the Bishop’s Company! This fall reception will be held on Friday, November 29th at Christ’s Church Cathedral. Please visit this website to reserve your place! The Bishop’s Company raises much needed discretionary funding to compassionately and strategically respond to the emergent needs of our diocesan leaders, lay and ordained. For more information about the Bishop’s Company, click here.

2020 Anglican Church Calendars: $5 each. Please speak to Joan Rutherford if you wish to order one.

Gift Cards are ordered the first Sunday of the month. Thank you to those who are continuing to use the gift cards and to those who are new supporters. Profit for the first nine months of 2019 is $1,422.90. Again in September our order was under $5,000.00 and as such, we needed to pay $10.00 shipping. With a few more parishioners ordering, we can avoid this charge. If anyone wants more information about this fundraiser, please see Linda Webster. The next order date is October 6th.

Centre Wellington Food Bank needs juice and instant coffee. Please leave donations in the baskets in the narthex. Thank you for your continued support.
